Simon Bull

Art by Simon Bull

Vibrant colors, metallic foils and gold leaf are all trademarks of Simon Bulls art. His medium, monotyping, combines the skill of drawing and painting with the fine precision of etching. Bull etches his composition into a copper plate and runs it through a press. Simon Bull then embellishes the etching with pastels, crayons, oils and overlays of metal foils or gold leaf.

I sometimes work onto the paper before it is printed (with the etching), then work heavily into it after the press has left its impression, Simon Bull says.

Simon Bull had his first successful one-man show in Hong Kong at the age of 18. Since then Simon Bull has gained international recognition as a distinctive watercolor, etching and monotype artist. Simon Bull studied fine arts at Leeds Polytechnic, and has exhibited widely in England and abroad. His work is part of corporate, public and private collections including that of the British Royal Family.

Simon Bull and his wife, Joanna, live in Cumbria in the beautiful Lake District of England with their three children.
