Peter Eoyang

Peter Eoyang was born Eoyang Hsun in Shanghai in the summer of 1923 as the first of four children of Eoyang Keh. He received his Christian name, Peter, and his artistic name, Yin Ye in China in the mid 1930s. Eoyang Yin Ye appears on many of his works as applied by a seal.

In 1937 Peter Eoyang came to the United States with his mother, his brother and his two sisters. Peter Eoyang attended military school in Indiana. He accepted an engineering job in Iran where he met his wife, Sally. She was English -- and working for the United Nations in Iran. They were married in England. Subsequently, the Eoyangs traveled to Chicago where Peter received a Civil Engineering degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology, and their only child, a son, was born.

In 1962 Peter Eoyang and his family moved to Colorado. Shortly afterward his employer, the Federal Bureau of Reclamation sent him to Bangkok for two years. It was not until 1972, after Peter returned to Colorado and settled in Golden that he began to paint. Peter Eoyang was a success, quickly completing White Beauty and other masterpieces.

In 1983, Peter Eoyang moved to Eugene, Oregon, and in 1993 to Avalon California, continuing to paint watercolors at both places. He was the Catalina Island artist of the month in September 1994, and won a Catalina Artist Award at the Catalina Art Festival in 1994. read more
