Jewelry that
floats gracefully on the human form is just one way of describing the artistry of Wendy
Tabb. Working delicate wire mesh and chain in sterling silver and 18k gold, punctuating
her masterful designs with such gemstones as sapphires, apatite, tanzanite, citrine,
labradorite, garnets and others, her signature pieces have a characteristic texture,
intimacy and grace. Her visionary line of seemingly weightless necklaces, chokers,
bracelets, earrings, anklets and rings are both seductive and memorable. Wendy Tabb's destiny as a designer of fine jewelry emerged with her art studies at UCLA, and took shape as she continued her art education at Parsons School of Design in New York City. Creating one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces for herself and her friends, her handiwork and its uncommon sculptural quality was remarked upon by a fashion designer to whom Wendy Tabb was apprenticed. This comment pushed her to pursue sculpture as her artistic focus, and after completing her studies, found her sculptural work in demand in galleries and museums across the country. However, Wendy Tabb was still working in wire, which became thinner and thinner as she refined her unique designs, which became smaller, more intimate works. Her transition from fine artist to designer of fine jewelry was a natural progression as she moved from working with base metals to precious metals. Her signature line of wire mesh, delicate chain, gemstones, as well as solid silver and gold, jewelry was launched in 1998 in New York City, eagerly awaited and lauded. Today, her designs have been featured in a number of high profile fashion publications, industry press and news magazines, and her masterpieces are owned and worn by such personalities as Cindy Crawford, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Lauren Velez and many more. |
