Keating describes his work as wearable art that fits human nature. His understanding of
the body, coupled with the principals of "natural geometry" and the inspiration
he derives from the Rocky Mountains have resulted in elegant collections that are truly
"in tune" with nature - human or otherwise.
Only after he changed his major from electrical engineering to industrial design, did Scott Keating find his true passion. One jewelry class was all that was needed to convince the Chicago native that his future was forever intertwined with the larger concepts of nature and natural or "sacred" geometry, and the creation of wearable art. Seeking inspiration, Scott Keating was drawn to the Rocky Mountains where he set up his custom jewelry design business in Aspen. After winning his reputation creating one-of-a-kind pieces for Aspen's celebrity set, he once again set his sights on a wider horizon and began designing distinctive collections.
Scott Keating's designs are eloquent tributes to the soaring beauty and mystery of the mountains that he sees daily from his jewelry bench. Working in 18k yellow and white gold, platinum and sterling silver, his work features a wide variety of colored gemstones including tourmaline, citrine and amethyst, as well as diamonds. Scott Keating approaches every material with a fresh eye and has developed new cuts for gemstones including his turret bar-cut. He has designed collections using woven silver and gold mesh. His remarkable designs have won him significant recognition in the trade - the "Diamonds of Distinction" award from De Beers, the "Designer of the 90's" award from Jewelers Circular-Keystone Magazine, and he was chosen as one of the 12 exhibitors at the prestigious Jewelers of America "New Designers Room" in New York City.
Similar to his other naturally-inspired collections, Whirlwind embraces the romance of two opposites intertwined into one movement - like rushing currents of air, a ring of pave diamonds and a ring of 18k yellow and white gold or platinum are joined in mute counterpoint. Realized in a variety of earring, bracelet, necklace and ring designs, this collection epitomizes the very nature and appeal of Scott Keating's modern classics.
