Ann Cooper

Paintings by Ann Cooper

"Pattern awakens my memory and brings associations, creating dramas in which objects on the table are the players. Once the story has evolved, it turns into a still life painting."

Housed on six shelves in Ann Cooper's studio are souvenirs, touristy replicas, little statues, marbles, cut-outs and pictures, all awaiting the opportunity to add narrative content to her watercolor on paper still life. Once chosen, the objects are arranged on a table where relationships and formations develop in Cooper's mind. Some pieces are added, some deleted until an atmosphere of playfulness and a sense of story materialize.
