"Pattern awakens my memory and brings associations,
creating dramas in which objects on the table are the players. Once the story has evolved,
it turns into a still life painting." Housed on six shelves in Ann Cooper's studio
are souvenirs, touristy replicas, little statues, marbles, cut-outs and pictures, all
awaiting the opportunity to add narrative content to her watercolor on paper still life.
Once chosen, the objects are arranged on a table where relationships and formations
develop in Cooper's mind. Some pieces are added, some deleted until an atmosphere of
playfulness and a sense of story materialize. |
