Ben Goldman

Paintings by Ben Goldman

"The paintings are puzzles. The pieces may cohere or remain unresolved, amuse or disturb, depending on how they are observed."

Familiar and disconcerting, provocative and paradoxical Ben Goldman invents a world of juxtapositions in his dream-like narratives. Pulling ideas from such varied sources as Japanese ukiyo-e prints and newspapers, nature calendars and crime photos, he provides the viewer with a humorous look at contemporary visual bombardment.

The paintings develop from preliminary sketches that are transferred to tracing paper. Ideas are moved to canvas using a grid system. The finished paintings intentionally question postmodern theories.
