Bill Mead

Paintings by Bill Mead

"The place I seek in my paintings exists between gravity and levity, suspension and presence, where the process is as important as the product."

Dense with paint and ambiguous in narrative, Bill Mead's paintings reflect the nature of the artist - lighthearted, genuine and intuitive - while suggesting a baffling though delightful sense of logic.

Each image focuses on a single vessel centered and worked over with layers, scratches and gouges. With their watercolor, inks, acrylic paint or casein the images maintain a sense of the abstract while suggesting nuances of meaning and form.
