Edda Jakab

Paintings by Edda Jakab

"I am not so much intrigued by what is visible to the eye, but by that which lies below the surface - the realm of the subconscious with its shadows of collective experience and memory."

Edda Jakab strives to create paintings that are open-ended and ambiguous - work that fosters the imagination. For her, art is about posing questions, and the more she influences viewers to participate in the dialogue, the better.

Though abstract, the soft blue forms found all through Jakab's work suggest a soothing, calming element. Water, her all-powerful symbol of life and energy, remains an important focus throughout the oil on canvas work.
