Zavareei combines modern and historic techniques in his compositions as well as in his imagery, which often suggests art historical figures. He begins by texturing the canvas with mastic or paint and then applies heavy layers of oil. Translucent glazes - often mixed with varnishes used by 16th-century masters - finish the paintings.
