Heather Kelley

Paintings by Heather Kelley

My paintings are based upon the collections which occupy my house and studio.

Heather Kelley has long been a collector. Toys, paper ephemera, religious icons, even teeth are collected and organized to provide inspiration for her paintings. Her collection of old books with unique and dated covers has inspired one of her most recent series, Bookcovers.

Kelleys paintings are exactly twice the size of the book cover they are based on. She scrapes and glazes the canvas with oil paints, creating a rich and textured surface. Though she looks back to the past for inspiration, Kelleys work remains thoroughly modern in style and application.

Heather is on the faculty at Mcneese State University.
