Paintings by Jeehee Paik
|"Sometimes the inner world is like abstract paintings:
some are clear and easily recognizable while others are unexplainable and enigmatic."
Working in two different studios, one in downtown Los Angeles and the other in downtown Seoul, Korea, Jeehee Paik finds inspiration in the tall buildings, busy traffic and other images of urban life.
Paik uses patterns of braided hair, knots and webbed figures to explore the inherent dualities of her inner self. Her paintings are self-portraits of an internal rather than an external perception. The works explore the conflicts that arise between physical, emotional and psychological selves, searching out the deeper relationships between the whole and the individual parts. In each piece, she makes a journey to find herself.
