During his upbringing in the rural Midwest, Jeff Darrow was awed by the slow-to-change landscape and quiet calm of his surroundings. In his paintings, he tries to capture that stillness before it disappears as the result of development. Darrow begins each painting with several pen and ink sketches that establish value and composition. He then begins applying paint with an aggressive determination. As the painting progresses, his application slows and becomes more deliberate to maintain the freshness of the original composition. |
