John Berens

Paintings by John Berens

"I base my painting methods on the belief that the work exists within me in the form of some innate imagery, old and recent memory and experience coalescing at times and waiting to come forth."

As landscapes emerge from the reflective multi-layered surfaces of John Berens paintings, the viewer is immersed within a poetic realm of our own observable world. Surrendering himself to the will of the painting, Berens hand moves freely over the panel as the image takes shape before him.

My paintings make reference to the world, making thoughts in the viewer, thoughts which play off of one another, like daydreams, memories, and rare, quiet moments.
