John Kilduff

Paintings by John Kilduff

"For the most part, L.A. is the wild, wild west. It's so expansive and different. There are so many neighborhoods to explore."

In the tradition of the California plein air movement, John Kilduff has been painting Los Angeles for 15 years. He simply sets up his easel and paints what he sees. He admits his choice of location sometimes puts him in a dangerous position, but he relies on the protective shell he's built up over the years to increase the likelihood that people will let him go about his work undisturbed. He has been flashed, gesticulated at, and has even faced a policeman's gun.

Nevertheless, he prefers the street to the studio. He has always painted landscapes; the beauty of the trees, the outdoors, and the people give him energy.
