John King

Paintings by John King

"The work is inspired by the richness of the visual world, the human imagination and the anticipation of what can happen when they collide in front of the easel on any given day."

Textured and vibrantly colored landscapes characterize John King's most recent work. In an effort to get out of his studio, to pay homage to natural light and scenery, King has captured the essential aspects of the richly varied visual world.

Having focused on what he terms "social surrealism" for his figurative studio work, King has sought to incorporate more humor and freedom in his lush landscapes. Painted on watercolor paper coated with gesso, these oil landscapes are mostly scenes of Northern California, though the hillsides of Italy, France and Mexico have also inspired.
