Leslie Kneisel

Paintings by Leslie Kneisel

"It is my purpose to question and parody social paradigms toward women, sexuality, sacrality and the origins of accepted forms of domination."

Allowing for the variety of her inspirations - religious iconography, nursery rhymes, blatant absurdity and taxidermy mannequins dressed in sadomasochist gear - Leslie Kniesel reveals her postmodern ideology and concern with the most current of modern perspectives.

Her most recent series deals with Mother Goose rhymes and encoded worldviews placed within the context of childhood innocence. The series, like all of her work, consciously combines disparate elements and layers of literal and metaphorical meaning.
