Marietta Patricia Leis

Paintings by Marietta Patricia Leis

"My work is an exploration, an homage and a celebration."

Using botany and architecture as metaphors for nature and man, Marietta Patricia Leis creates paintings rich in memory, emotion and juxtaposition. She strives to allow the work to resonate with a mysterious history that is suggested by the scraped or gouged surfaces of her layered paintings.

Leis works predominantly in oil on canvas that are shaped based on architectural forms. Gardens, flowers and plants have been a popular motif for Leis; for her they radiate the sensations embodied within her and constantly remind one of paradise.
