Walter Gabrielson

Paintings by Walter Gabrielson

"It's difficult to describe what I'm looking for. But I know it when I see it."

Walter Gabrielson develops images from experience, traveling whenever he can in order to gather material, shoot film, and make sketches. Small towns are his favorite. He looks for sets, situations, and real life acts that might fit the canvas, never sure of where or what they might be until he finds them.

He uses oil paints to capture his images because of its sensitivity and ability to produce an infinite amount of the "in-between" blends of color. Blending orange, yellow, reds and blues to create warm, velvety textures with soft, detailed borders. Always following his own internal source of inspiration, always on the lookout for life's visual narratives.
